SSB4 DAILY PICTURE BLOG #48 - 21/7/14 to 25/7/14

MONDAY
Miiverse quote: Pic of the day. Robin's Nosferatu is the first ability in the Smash Bros. series that recovers your damage as it gives damage to others. The attack becomes even stronger if you strike from behind! Robin doesn't actually use this ability in the original game, but we added that element to make the character unique. Who knows--the ideas we use in this game may contribute to the original series.

Monday's picture was of Nosferatu, although it didn't tell us much that we didn't already know after seeing the scans from last week. The attack heals Robin while damaging his victim, and is stronger when attacking from behind.

TUESDAY
Miiverse quote: Pic of the day. Here's the Great Fox from Star Fox: Assault. I wonder what missions it will conduct. It'll probably have fighters running around on top of it without the pilot's consent.

The Great Fox was revealed as the Wii U Star Fox stage, this time using its design from Star Fox: Assault. While we don't know how the stage will actually function, Sakurai hints that it'll be like previous Star Fox stages with the fighters on top of the ship. Whether or not this'll be length-wise like Corneria or width-wise like Venom is yet to be seen.

WEDNESDAY
Miiverse quote: Pic of the day. In general, there are completely different stages in the 3DS and Wii U version, but we made Wily Castle and the special boxing ring available for both versions! We didn't forget the Yellow Devil either. There may be some small differences in the stages, such as the 3DS stage appearing to be during daylight hours.

Wily Castle was revealed to be one of the dual-platform stages of Super Smash Bros 4, debuting its 3DS look in the picture. Unlike the Wii U version, this stage will take place during the day. So far this means that this stage, Battlefield, Final Destination and the Boxing Ring will be appearing in both games, and I have a feeling we'll be seeing a few more on both platforms.

THURSDAY
First picture Miiverse quote: Pic of the day. This is the Tomodachi Life stage that's exclusive to the 3DS version! The front walls of the apartments disappear so you can see the area within when a fighter overlaps with the room. The rooms are randomly placed and selected from among several types. Planting an X Bomb behind a wall might be an effective tactic.
Second picture Miiverse quote: You might run into a Mii living in the room! The Mii characters are taken from the data in your 3DS system, so you could find your friends living in the apartments.

The Tomodachi Life stage was finally elaborated upon months after our first peek at it. Like many people had suspected, the stage works like Luigi's Mansion in Brawl but without the destructive element. Apartments with at least one fighter in it will be fully visible, while the rest will be obscured by walls. Miis from your Mii Plaza will also appear on this stage much like other 3DS titles.

FRIDAY
First picture Miiverse quote: Pic of the day. For the first time ever, I present to you…the main menu for the 3DS version!! The icons are even animated. The design concept may look similar if you've played other games I've worked on. But we had a hard time making this one because…
Second picture Miiverse quote: The bottom screen displays pictures matching each mode! This was quite a task for the UI (User Interface) designers, but they made it happen. Kudos to them! You can tap the screen to look up additional info like how to play–complete with diagrams.

Showing just how close we are to Super Smash Bros. for 3DS' release, Sakurai showed off both screens of the main menu for the first time. The top screen is actually designed so the buttons form an S, and reiterates that we are getting Streetpass and 3DS to Wii U compatibility. The bottom screen explains each mode, with touchable icons to go into further detail
